Welcome to The Birmingham Assay Office Early Silver Hallmarks Database.
The Office has a proud history of testing and hallmarking items manufactured from precious metals since 1773. This database will allow you to research Birmingham hallmarks,
including sponsors’ marks and dates.

The information contained in the database relates solely to Birmingham marks.
So for your search to be successful, the hallmark on your item must include an Anchor;
the town mark for Birmingham.

If your hallmark does not include an Anchor, it is likely to have been hallmarked by one of the other UK Assay Offices. For contact details of other UK Assay Offices, please click here.
